Fertility Acupuncture

Since the Barnsley Acupuncture Centre originally opened in 2010, we have treated an estimated 1700 fertility patients. Our recorded success rate over that period is 62% (based on patients attending for a minimum of 6 treatments. Accurate to December 2023)

Fertility treatments currently represent about 28% of all treatments we undertake.

Whilst there are standard fertility acupuncture protocols we tailor treatments to individuals. No two fertility patients are the same. Consequently, we prefer to start with a detailed free consultation either in the clinic or by phone or zoom. We’re interested in your fertility journey to date but also any other health issue-however irrelevant they may seem.

Many fertility patients come to us saying they need to feel relaxed during IVF and want acupuncture to help with that. Acupuncture is relaxing and this will help you conceive, either assisted or unassisted. But it is also a clinical process. The aim is to stimulate energy and blood flow. To do this we mostly use points in the lower limbs but will also probably use a couple over your abdomen. Occasionally we will also use points on your lower back.

Our approach to fertility acupuncture is different to most other acupuncturists. Which is probably why we have higher success rates. Fertility problems are usually unexplained. Even where there is a possible explanation you cannot be certain that is the only explanation. Our starting point is that fertility problems are as likely to be a male issue as a female one. Consequently, we prefer to treat both partners and offer a discounted rate of £40 per session to treat both partners at the same time. We understand that you or you partner may be nervous about this approach and will discuss this in detail at the free consultation.

Many of our fertility patients are already undergoing IVF treatment. We are very happy to treat alongside IVF but would encourage you to start acupuncture several months in advance. This will increase our chances of being able to help you and in some cases couples do conceive with acupuncture prior to IVF. If however you are already booked in to start IVF that is fine, we can still treat you and improve your chances of success

Fertility challenges can seem like a desperate journey at times. We understand that and have a very flexible approach to treatment. Acupuncture could well be the solution to your challenge. We have helped over a thousand couples conceive during the 14 years the clinic has been opened. This has included couples who have

  • Been trying to conceive for more than 10 years
  • Had seven or more failed IVF cycles
  • Been told by their gynaecologist that it is “impossible for them to conceive
  • Had numerous early miscarriages.

Hopefully this has given you insight into how we treat fertility challenges. We have more detailed information on both IVF and acupuncture for miscarriage risk. But please contact us to book a free consultation.

We usually recommend two treatments a month but have had plenty of successes with monthly acupuncture sessions. We don’t believe that being treated weekly is beneficial and again differ from other acupuncturists in this respect. Our approach is flexible. Treatment dates often need to move because of cycle changes, and we never charge fertility patients for moving appointments. Equally there will be times when you will want to take a break from focusing on fertility- we understand and encourage that.
